Open the Book School Assembly

Open the Book is a project which offers primary school children an opportunity to hear the major stories of the Bible, from a team of Christians from local churches, who present the stories during assemblies/acts of Collective Worship. Each presentation takes around 10-15 minutes and can be incorporated into a wider school assembly, or can stand alone. It is a three-year rolling programme with an additional, but optional year of material based on Christian Values.

Haltwhistle Methodist Church set up an Open the Book team which once a month delivers a storytelling assembly in Haltwhistle First School, Greenhead Primary School and recently added Henshaw Primary School. The team share a number of different roles and always involve some of the children in each performance. These assemblies have proven to be exceptionally popular, so much so we now have requests from other local schools to visit and provide storytelling assemblies.
