Who We Are

Joining a church can mean many things to many people. Some seek out God and community when they feel they have lost their way, or are seeking a deeper purpose, or are looking for a way to connect to their family and cultural identity. But it is our belief here at Haltwhistle that the Church, at its core, is about finding love and beauty through Jesus Christ.
At Haltwhistle Methodist Church, we seek to inspire individuals of all ages and backgrounds to bring Jesus Christ to the centre of their lives at every moment - moments of joy, moments of despair, and even those moments in between. We are committed to the teachings of Jesus Christ and are here to spread His message with loving patience and kindness.

A Brief History
  • The present church in Westgate was built in 1882, replacing a previous chapel on the same site.

  • The organ was installed in 1905 and in the 1920s the hall was added.

  • In the 1970s the two Methodist churches in Haltwhistle (Westgate and Castle Hill) joined together and we worshipped at Castle Hill while this church was re-modelled – removing the balcony and turning the pews through 180 degrees.

  • The current church entrance was added in the 1980s and the hall entrance re-configured in the 2000s.

  • Since the closure of the town’s Church Hall, our hall has become a popular central venue for many community activities.
